Easter, Day 35
Today’s morning meditation is available below in audio and script formats. The audio version is also available to download for free on the player.
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”
—Henry David Thoreau
Everyone will agree that someday the body must grow old, weaken, and drop away, but not many will face the fact that it will happen to them. If we really believe we will die, we will do something about it. When we realize fully that we are not this changing body but the changeless Self who dwells in the body, we conquer death here and now. (WLB)
As your day begins, spend few moments in silence and stillness. Let God be the only goal of your thoughts and your attention. As contrary thoughts emerge, and your mind tries to wander, gently refocus your attention back on to God.
Today’s evening meditation is available below in audio and script formats. The audio version is also available to download for free on the player.
“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”
—The Gospel of John, Chapter 14
As your day draws to a close, spend few moments in silence and stillness. As you do, recall any words or phrases that stood out to you from the passage that you just read. Whisper them aloud if you wish.
Heavenly Father, thank you for calling me your cherished child. Train my heart so that I experience and enjoy this status. Send your Spirit to me today, taking this truth that I am embraced as your child and making it believable to my heart, a reality in my living that governs my thoughts, feelings, and actions. Amen.
